How to get a chess rating

How to get a chess rating: online GChess rating, FIDE rating, ranking, and playing rated events.

Getting a rating means two things: an online rating after rated site games, and a FIDE rating after official events.

On GChess, rated online games measure your level. A FIDE rating requires FIDE-rated tournaments through your federation calendar.

World ranking is the FIDE list. Magnus Carlsen has spent years at the top; grandmasters such as Fabiano Caruana and Gukesh Dommaraju sit near the summit.

Rating is a training tool, not a trophy. If your online rating swings, keep daily tactics and loss analysis steady.
